Teacher Residents
The Durham Charter School Teacher Resident program seeks outstanding individuals to train alongside our team of dedicated and professional educators as first-time teachers. Our Teacher Resident program is designed for bold, determined, mission-driven people who believe deeply in the power of teaching and learning and have a passion for service!
An education background is not required for participation. Our Teacher Residents learn critical skills that can carry them into a fulfilling career in education or gain valuable experience that's transferable to a wide range of fields. Development is at the heart of our program. Teacher Residents embody our values of hungry, humble, and smart.
Our teacher residents work alongside a lead teacher in the classroom and receive consistent feedback and coaching. They are involved in lesson planning, individual and small group instruction, and even cover classes as needed. Our teacher residents initiate their personal learning and develop the skills required to succeed in the teaching profession. The goal of our teacher resident program is for participants to get hands-on training and complete coursework to obtain a North Carolina teaching license and become lead teachers in our building.

In order to obtain a full professional North Carolina license, Teacher Residents participate in a state approved licensure program, paid for by the school.
