Elementary School

My name is Elizabeth Herrera Wiley, and I bring over fifteen years of experience in education. Throughout my career, I have had the honor of serving in a variety of roles,  including thirteen years as a classroom teacher, one year as an instructional coach, and two years as a principal. Each of these experiences has deepened my commitment to building positive learning environments where scholars can truly thrive, supporting academic achievement for every learner, and fostering meaningful relationships with scholars, families, and staff.

I have had the privilege of being part of the important work here at Durham Charter School for five years. I first joined the DCS community from 2018 to 2020, serving as a 4th and 5th Grade teacher. I then continued my educational journey in Oregon, where I served as a Dual Language teacher and instructional coach at a Spanish Immersion School in Beaverton. I was thrilled to return to DCS in 2023 as a classroom teacher and principal resident, and in 2024, I stepped into the principalship. It has been one of the most meaningful, challenging, and rewarding experiences of my career.

I am eager and motivated to continue this work alongside all of you to make Durham Charter School an even stronger and more vibrant place to learn, grow, and belong. Here at DCS, we are deeply committed to developing a culture of learning where diversity is celebrated, collaboration is a daily practice, and igniting each scholar's curiosity and love for learning is at the heart of everything we do.

To our returning families, thank you for your continued trust and unwavering support. You are the backbone of this community, and we do not take your partnership for granted. To our new families, welcome to the Durham Charter School family! We are so glad you are here.
