Healthy Start Education, Inc. d/b/a Durham Charter School seeks Elementary School Teacher to teach in Durham, NC. Must have Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree and must hold or be eligible to hold a NC teaching license in Elementary Education (K-6). Employment will require a background check. Durham Charter School is seeking outstanding leaders to train as first-time teachers alongside our team of dedicated and professional educators. Our Teacher Resident program is designed for bold, determined, mission-driven people who believe deeply in the power of teaching and learning. Development is at the heart of our program.

Qualifications & Eligibility:

  • Teacher Residents must be passionate, committed to teaching in historically underserved schools
  • Eager to learn how to teach effectively
  • Prior experience in education not required. 

Teacher Resident training includes:

  • 1-week Summer training Institute in Durham
  • Weekly 1:1 coaching sessions with your on-campus peer Mentor and Instructional Coach
  • Monthly full day training sessions and weekly Professional Development on school culture, pedagogy, and instruction
  • Classroom observations and practice sessions with real-time feedback from our trained and experienced instructional leaders

Teacher Residents will have the opportunity to pursue a Masters Degree from Western Governors University free of charge as part of residency program (with a 4- year commitment).

Responsibilities:

  • Direct instruction with scholars including leading small group instruction and remediation
  • Support classroom teachers in instructional planning while developing your content knowledge
  • Working alongside your team to support staffing needs
  • Opportunities to lead whole-class instruction/ co-teach
  • Develop skills through consistent feedback and coaching
  • Assess student progress and communicate progress to families and colleagues
  • Ensure student academic achievement and personal growth; highest need subjects include Elementary, English/Language Arts, Science, Math
  • Lesson planning
  • Initiate personal learning and develop skills required to succeed in the teaching profession
  • Develop a vision and commitment to successfully teach students

  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.

Our school is on an ambitious growth trajectory and will expand to serve over 1200 students in grades K-12 by 2027 on new a campus.

We are currently seeking school bus drivers.  The requirements of this part time position are:

  • Must possess a valid CDL Class B License with P and S endorsements
  • Must successfully pass background check and have clean driving record
  • Prior school bus driving experience preferred


Salary:

  • Starting pay $20/per hour.  Hourly pay commensurate with experience
  • Guaranteed 5 hours per school day
