Middle School
My journey in education began in 2007 when I entered the classroom as a 4th-grade teacher. From the beginning, I was driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives by creating engaging learning experiences, building strong relationships, and maintaining high expectations for every learner. Over the next 13 years, I taught students in grades 3–5, continually refining my instructional practices and deepening my understanding of what it takes to support all students in achieving success.
This year marks my eighth year at Durham Charter School (DCS), an organization that has provided me with opportunities to grow as an educator and leader. During my time at DCS, I have served as an Instructional Coach, Principal Resident, and Principal. Each role has strengthened my instructional leadership skills and reinforced my commitment to ensuring every student receives a high-quality education.
In 2021, I transitioned into the role of Instructional Coach, where I spent two years supporting teachers in strengthening instructional practices and improving student outcomes. This experience allowed me to collaborate with educators, analyze student data, facilitate professional learning, and support teachers in their pursuit of instructional excellence.
DCS’s commitment to continuous professional growth and leadership development provided me with opportunities to expand my impact beyond the classroom. To prepare for these leadership opportunities, I earned my K–12 School Administration license through Appalachian State University, where I strengthened my knowledge of instructional leadership, organizational management, and school improvement.
I am now entering my fourth year as a principal. My leadership journey began as a K–6 principal, followed by serving as a 6–8 principal, and I am currently in my second year leading grades 4–8. Each leadership experience has broadened my perspective and strengthened my ability to build a strong school culture, develop teachers, and improve outcomes for students across multiple grade levels.
Throughout my career, I have remained committed to continuous learning and professional growth. I recently earned my Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, further strengthening my ability to lead instructional improvement and implement research-based practices that positively impact student achievement.
Every step of my journey, from classroom teacher to Instructional Coach, Principal Resident, and Principal, has shaped my leadership philosophy. I believe great schools are built through strong relationships, collaborative teams, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. As a leader, I strive to empower teachers, inspire students, and cultivate a school culture where every scholar is challenged to grow, encouraged to persevere, and equipped to succeed in college, career, and life.
